Guess what we did tonight

So I am sitting at the kitchen table looking through the junk mail when Jenna comes up to me, grabs her bum, says "poopie" and runs to the bathroom. I thought it was going to be just like last time, where she would freak out when I try to sit her on the potty and that would be the end of it. So I tried to put her on the potty fully dressed, but she didn't want to sit down. I took her off, but she wanted to get back on, so I tried one more time. To my surprise, she sat there! And she continued to sit there for like 5 minutes. I decided to take advantage of the opportunity, so I stripped her down and set her down. Within 30 seconds she piddled a little. What a nice sound! Anyway, we spent the next 10 minutes playing in the bathroom. It was the most fun I have had in a bathroom for a long time. I am not getting my hopes up that she will be potty trained any time soon, but it sure would be nice!

Here is Jenna praising herself. She kept clapping and saying "Yay!"

I told Jenna to go poopy, so she made this face. She did manage to push out a little toot.

Mental Health Day

So Friday I took the day off of work. I called it a "mental health day", but my friends called it a "Me day". Either way you look at it, I took the day off. The weather has just been so nice and we are kind of in a slow time at work, so I have just not wanted to be there for the last few weeks.

I had a great day, but it was much too short. I didn't tell Joel I was doing this until Thursday night so he wouldn't be tempted to take the day off too (not that I wouldn't love to spend the day with him, but I needed some time to myself). So I got up early and went to the temple. After, I came home and paid some bills and tried to clean up a little bit. Then I had a hair appointment. It has been several months since I have had my hair cut and the good ole Fantastic Sams, and much longer since I have had anything besides just a cut done to it. I decided to splurge and went and had my hair cut and colored. I got tons of blonde highlights. I am still deciding if I like it or not. I left the salon loving it, but now I keep going back and forth. I didn't get a funky cut or anything. It's still pretty much the same even though I told the girl to do whatever with it.

Anyway, by the time she finished my hair it was 3:00 and I was missing Jenna so I went to pick her up from daycare (hey, we had already paid for her to be there for the day, so I had Joel take her in). We came home and played for a little while, then went to the grocery store. I had to laugh while we were at the store because I walked down the rice aisle and all of the shelves were empty. They have been talking on the news lately about the wheat and rice shortages around the country, and I guess I got to see some of it first hand. There were a couple of couples there that were taking one or two carts around and filling them full of food storage stuff. I laughed at the time because I was planning on going to the cannery Saturday morning and was thinking that I was going to pay 1/2 the price these people were paying.

Well, I went to the cannery and guess what. They were nearly out of food! I couldn't beleive it. Apparentley they had a run the day before and had to close early because they were running out of food. They said they sold $25,000 in wheat on Friday alone. They didn't have wheat, beans, rice, or oats left. What a joke! The missionaries there were a little upset about it. They were saying how it wasn't fair for us who had signed up 6 weeks in advance to go work to not be able to buy anything because people who had been freaked out by the news had come and bought everything up. I have to agree with them. I felt kind of bad for them, though, too because there was a guy there who went off on one of the missionaries because they didn't have what he wanted. Like it was her fault. What a jerk.

Anyway, a little side note about Friday night. Jenna and I are sitting there playing when she jumps up, grabs her bum, says "Poopy!" and runs to the bathroom. She went straight to the toilet and lifted the lid. I thought, "This is awesome. She is going to potty train herself." No such luck. I put her on the potty and she freaked out. I put her diaper back on and she ran to the corner to do her business. I know she is still pretty young to be potty trained, but we went out on Saturday and bought a potty for her (It's called the "Cushy Tushy", isn't that cute?). We thought we could have it on hand just to get her used to it I guess. She wanted to play with it last night, but freaked out again when I sat her on it. I am not too worried about potty training her quite yet, but I guess I'd better start thinking about it. I don't even know where to begin, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Busy Week

We have had quite the week. Here's the break-down.

Basement - Joel has spent a lot of time working on the basement. He is currently insulating. He has pretty much finished our storage room, so I am really excited to get things organized. I have thrown things in the room, but haven't organized it all. It has been really nice to be able to get to some of the boxes that have been stacked in cold storage for the last year. I have also been able to get a lot of Jenna's old baby stuff out of our living space and into the basement. Yay!

Night Out - On Tuesday, I left early from work and came home to get ready for our first date night since January (and that was for a work function, so that doesn't really count). Joel's dad came over to watch Jenna while we went to dinner. We went to Ruth's Chris Steak House up in Salt Lake. It was awesome! I knew it was fancy when they came out and asked me what kind of water I would like. We had been saving up for this since my birthday in November, so we were not holding anything back. Joel had the NY Strip and I had a Rib-eye. I have never been to a place where you can't start eating right away because the food is too hot. We had to actually blow on our food. We overheard a waitress at the table next to us telling people to not start eating right away; she didn't want them to burn their tongue. I didn't eat much of my dinner for the sole purpose of saving room for dessert. We got the "Chocolate Duo". It was awesome! There was a little dish of custard on one side and a cake filled with chocolate sauce on the other. It was to die for. Even better, they gave it to us for free because it was our anniversary. Nice.

Sickness - Jenna got a cold this week on top of her cutting two new teeth and her weekly ear infection. I picked her up from day care on Wednesday and her eye looked nasty. Apparently all of the kids had a cold in their eyes. I have never heard of that. It sounds made up. Either way, it looked like she had blown her nose out of her eye. It was gross. She spent all night being ornery. She just did not feel well at all. I felt so bad for her. Her eye still looked pretty gross on Thursday, so I left work at 9:30 (That's my kind of work day) and came home to spend the day with her. By the time I got home she was starting to feel better, so we got to spend the day together. Unfortunately she has given me her nasty cough. I haven't slept the last few nights because between her and me, we've been coughing constantly.

Baby Shower - A group of girls and myself planned a little baby shower pot luck for a girl that we work with. Well, it started out being a group of girls and me, but then it ended up just being me. I have spent all week getting everything ready. I had to coordinate all of the food, make the food that I was going to bring, buy and wrap the group gift, and set everything up. The whole thing turned out fine, but it stunk because everything got dumped on me. Anyway, it's over.

Basketball - Well, the NBA finals have begun. This is a good thing and a bad thing. It's good because it means the basketball season is almost over. It's a bad thing because now we have to watch every game. Oh well. Go Pistons.

When I was home with Jenna on Thursday, she disappeared into the bathroom. I turned around to find her pulling all of the tissues out of the box and wiping her nose with each one of them. I guess her nose was running. (Don't mind the no pants. She likes to take them off)

A week in Review

Well, another week down and not much to show for it.

Monday - I went shopping on my lunch break for new clothes for Jenna. She went through a big growth spurt the last couple of weeks. A month ago she was in 12 month clothes, now half of her 18 month clothes are too small. I don't really get it though because the other half of her 18 month clothes are too big. Anyway, she needed new clothes. I got her a couple of shirts and some cute little shoes. Those are weird too, because the size 4 shoes are too small but the size 5 are way to big. I guess you never win.

That night we went to the Flash game. It was a lot of fun. The Owl from the Orem Owls (baseball team) was there. Jenna walked over to see him and just froze. He held out his hand to give her five and she just stood there staring at him. As soon as he turned around, she started to wave at him. What a weirdo. We left just before the 4th quarter, but before we left the MC pointed out that Thurl Bailey was at the game. They had him stand up and sing happy birthday to all of the people in the audience who were having birthdays. It was his birthday, too. I enjoyed it because I think he is an awesome guy. He is on our Board of Directors at work and I have had the chance to meet him a couple of times. He is super nice (and not bad on the eyes, either).

Tuesday - I got to go to the gym tonight because the Pistons were playing so Joel stayed home to watch Jenna. I usually try not to be gone for very long, but tonight I decided I wanted to see how long I could run. It's been awhile since I've done a distance run, so I didn't think I would last very long. I was able to run nearly 4 miles before I decided to stop. I wanted to go longer, but also wanted to do some lifting before I left. Plus, I saw too many people that I knew there so I just wanted to leave. I don't like to be there with people that I know. I know, I am weird. I just get self conscious.

Wednesday - I got to go to the gym again today. It felt really good to go. I didn't stay long because Joel wanted to work on the basement and couldn't if he was watching Jenna. When I got home I grabbed a quick bite to eat then got cleaning the house. I hadn't put the laundry away from the weekend, so I had to do that. Plus the house was a mess, so Jenna "helped" me clean up. By the time 9:00 rolled around I was beat. I fell into bed nice and early.

Thursday - More cleaning! The house was still a mess. It never seems to stay clean for very long. It was also The Office night tonight. Joel and I DVR'd it and watched it commercial-free. It was hilarious! I am so glad that it is back on.

Friday - It was the longest day of my life at work today. I was just waiting on other people to finish some stuff so I didn't have a ton to do. Plus, the weather was beautiful outside so it made it so hard to be at work. When I FINALLY left, I picked up Jenna and we went grocery shopping. About two aisles into the store, Jenna demanded that I open the fruit snacks and give her some. I couldn't blame her because it had been awhile since she'd eaten. The only problem was, she proceeded to choke on one. She managed to cough it up along with everything else that was in her stomach at the time. We made a mad dash to the bathroom where we cleaned her and myself up. I couldn't get the stench out though. Needless to say, the rest of the shopping experience went rather quickly.

Saturday - We got up early and headed to Home Depot. Joel needed insulation for the basement and I needed storage shelves to finally organize our newly finished storage room. We spent a good hour there. Afterward, we went to breakfast (although it was nearly noon) with Joel's family. Joel's Aunt Kristi and Kelly were in town so they all got together so we could see them. It was fun, but quick since Joel and his dad wanted to get working on the basement. They spent the entire day down there and got quite a bit done. Finally, around 6, Joel emerged from downstairs and we headed to the last Flash game of the year. It was fun. It's been nice to have season tickets, but I don't think we'll do it again next year. It's almost a burden to go to all of the games. We feel like we have to though, since we already bought the tickets. After the game we came home and planned our Sunday School lesson.

Sunday - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to us! It's been seven years. I know, I can't believe it's already been that long. We haven't done anything for the anniversary yet. We are going out to dinner on Tuesday, but that's for my birthday, Valentine's Day, and our anniversary. We're a little behind on celebrating events. Anyway, our lesson went well today. It was about forgiveness.

Other - So I get on Mom & Dad's blog earlier this week and found out that Jill was in Australia. Thanks for the heads up on that one. You should have told me--I would have gone with you (well, maybe not. I am still a first time Mom and can't stand to leave Jenna). Anyway, I felt pretty stupid because I had just left Jill a message the night before (you can just delete that, Jill).
Anyway, that was a long and boring post, but I think it fills you in on everything.

This week's update

So Jenna went to the doctor last week like Joel mentioned earlier. What a waste of time. She was going for a hearing test. They ran the same test on her that they did last time. Last time she failed in her right ear and passed her left. This time it was the opposite. They gave the same reasoning--that the tubes open her ears up so much that her breathing could get in the way of the test and give a false fail. What a joke. We think she is fine.

Last weekend Joel's company had a leadership conference up at the Airport Hilton. He had to stay up there Friday night, so Jenna and I went and joined him. I left work a little early, went and picked up Jenna and headed up to the hotel. We got there just as the conference was finishing up for the day. We hauled in all of our crap (we had a lot of "necessities" for a 24 hour trip), then headed into Salt Lake for dinner. We went to the Crown burger down by the Energy Solutions Arena. I had never been there and Joel wanted me to check it out. We didn't realize that there was a Jazz game that night. Aparently if you spend so much there, you get free parking for the Jazz game. It was packed! You had to hover over tables in order to get one. It was not my style. The food was good, but the crowd was a little much.

After dinner we headed back to the hotel and hung out for a little while. The activity for the night was go kart racing. So we got together with all of the conference attendees and headed back to SLC. Go kart racing was a lot of fun. We had to divide into 4 groups of about ten. Joel was in the first group and had a blast. Each group drove for about 30 minutes. By the time it was my groups turn (I was in the fourth group) it was 10:30. I was so tired! The rest of the people in the group were tired too, so we only drove for about 15 minutes. It was a lot of fun. Jenna stayed up nearly the whole time. She was the hit of the show. Everyone loved her. She loved waving "hi" to everyone.

On Saturday, Joel got up early and headed for the conference. Jenna and I hung out in the room for a little while. We then went and listened to some of the speakers for a little while. I then took Jenna swimming. I didn't want to change my clothes, so we just stood on the steps. That's all she wanted to do anyway. A couple of her cousins were there and tried to take her out a little deeper but she didn't want anything to do with that.

After swimming we went out in the back of the hotel and played with the ducks at the pond they had. Jenna loved chasing them. They had no fear, so they let her. She was so excited!

Jenna and I finally left to go home around 1:00. All in all, we had a great time. We had to come home and take a long nap.

Well, we just found out that Joel's aunt is in town, so I better go.
